Middle School 1:1 iPad Program

iPads are purchased through the school. Each iPad comes with a keyboard case. Both the iPad and the case have a three year warranty. Details about pricing and the model that will be available for the 2019-2020 school year, including dates for pickup during the summer, will be communicated during the spring.

Students do not need to purchase an Apple Pencil.  We do recommend that parents consider purchasing a stylus for their child to use with their iPad. You should purchase a stylus that your child is comfortable using.  

Some students prefer rounded tip ones, others use a fine tip one like this or this, some use the Logitech Crayon, and others use Apple Pencils.  The iPads provided to TVS students are compatible with the 1^st generation Apple Pencil.  (The 2^nd generation is just for iPad Pros)

Yes. Your child's iPad will connect to the TVS Student Wi Fi network while at school and will receive the same protective filtering as any other computer at school. 

However, parents will need to provide their own filtering for off-campus iPad use.

Your child's teachers will determine the required apps. Any paid apps that are required will be furnished by the school. Your child may be asked to download free apps.

Your child does not need an Apple ID.  All school apps can be downloaded through TVS Self Service without the need for an Apple ID.  We recommend that students not use an Apple ID for messaging or downloading games on their iPads to avoid distractions from their school work. 

Families may find an Apple ID helpful to be able to individually manage the Find My iPad functionality.  TVS also has the ability to assist families by locking and locating lost iPads through our management system if they are connected to wifi.

Both teachers and the school's technology staff will help your child with any software related issues. All iPads are covered for three years under Apple's Apple Care + program.

For hardware issues, including cracked screens, it is the family's responsibility to obtain service through Apple Care + at an Apple store. Please see these instructions to ensure that data is backed up and that the new iPad will be configured correctly.

If Apple provides a new iPad do not have it setup/restored at the Apple store. Follow the instructions provided on the Canvas Middle School Page to get your new iPad setup.

If your child's keyboard case isn't working, make sure to check that your software version is up to date in Settings - General - Software Update. After the software update, do a hard restart by pressing the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo shows up.

If it is still not working, and the failure is the result of a case defect email helpdesk@trinityvalleyschool.org so that we can arrange a replacement and/or a loaner. Note that if the problem is with the charging and you feel the charging cable is loose, be sure to gently pull your cord out from base of the cord in the future to keep it from getting loose once you get your new case.

If your child's detachable keyboard stopped working due to abuse, for example the serial number is removed, you can obtain a replacement keyboard directly from Logitech. After you have ordered a replacement keyboard please email a copy of the receipt to helpdesk@trinityvalleyschool.org and we will arrange for a loaner for your child to use until the replacement arrives.

All iPads are ordered with the Apple Care + protection plan which covers accidental damage for three years.

If your child's iPad is damaged it is the family's responsibility to obtain service through Apple Care + at an Apple store. Make an appointment at the Apple Store and follow these instructions to ensure data is backed up and the new iPad is set up correctly.

If Apple gives you a new iPad do not have it setup/restored at the Apple Store. The School’s technology staff will setup the iPad as a TVS iPad and restore school related apps. You can then restore any personal data and apps.

Students will be required to lock the iPad in their locker when it is not in use. Sixth grade cubbies will be equipped with locking doors for this purpose.

Ultimately, though, each child is responsible for his/her own iPad as with other personal items of value.

One of the things we hope to accomplish with this program is a reduction in paper use. However, sometimes printing will be helpful and in these cases, wireless printers will be available in the middle school for your child's use.

For students receiving financial assistance, the school provides financial support one time for students in grades six through twelve for either their Middle School iPad purchase or their Upper School BYOD purchase.
